Illustration

Bold illustrations are a delightful part of our brand identity—they convey emotion and suggest relationships through bold, interacting shapes. They can be applied across a range of visual expressions, from emotional to functional.

Illustration styles

Our illustrations are fresh and flexible. We have two types—hero and spot. There isn’t an exact science to our illustrations, they’re not cookier-cutter—think cousins instead of siblings.

Using illustrations

We use illustrations to convey more conceptual messages that photography might not capture as effectively.

  • A Stardog “Access data anywhere” poster in a city bus shelter at night, its lower half filled with an illustrated hand reaching across interconnected shapes

Hero illustrations are designed for high-visibility moments, such as key web modules and outdoor advertising, that effectively communicate what we do. Use these instead of photography when the content conveys a broad story about our business.

  • A Stardog social post reading “See what all the buzz is about” on an orange field, with a spot illustration of a beehive

Spot illustrations are the perfect way to share our messages in a relatable way. They help bring our brand to life and add a personal touch that connects with our audience.

Spot illustrations and icons

These are used to provide context and meaning and are often accompanied by supporting text. They also allow for users to quickly navigate information. However, not all concepts can be distilled down to a simple icon. Some headlines function better without an illustration in order to avoid confusion and visual clutter.
