Before NASA was established, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory was building spacecraft. Engineers at JPL have developed specific expertise from the over one hundred missions it has launched to date. However, that valuable information is locked in mission-specific data silos, difficult to find when new projects begin. Even though engineers wanted to build upon the experiences of past missions, quickly identifying the relevant documentation was difficult. In order to stand on the shoulders of their predecessors, JPL turned to a knowledge graph solution.
JPL’s Tech Connect Platform helps project managers and engineers find the knowledge isolated within past missions. Now, engineering diagrams, component parts, grants, research, and mission information are easily findable. Using a faceted browser, engineers can now uncover relevant documentation in order to leverage prior knowledge for mission success.
